A 2004 Raindance Study reveals - the most common distractions business professionals face during a teleconference are:
Doing unrelated work (70%)
Looking for the materials being discussed in the meeting (69%)
Reading and/or sending e-mail or instant messages (50%)
Eating (37%)
Muting call and talking to someone else (36%)
Surfing the Internet (27%)
In a survey of 440 training and development professionals conducted by professors from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina and the E.J. Ourso College of Business at Louisiana State University it was found that:
60% of respondents indicated that their company had no training for virtual team leaders or members.
Among those companies that offered at least some training, only 7% believed their program was either very or extremely effective.
Companies with effective programs most often had cultural sensitivity training (70.6%) and team building (70.1%).
Among the companies that offered team training, team leadership skills training was deemed the most valuable.
Training on how to lead a virtual team meeting was considered very or extremely valuable by 71% of the respondents.
How to coach and mentor remotely was deemed valuable by 69.5%
Training on monitoring team progress and diagnosing and correcting problems was considered valuable by 68.1%
